Overview
Glendale Community College and the Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction are sponsoring and hosting a district-wide webcast of Fostering a Collegial Environment: Guidelines for Department Chairs offered through Magna Seminars. Learn concrete, proactive strategies that foster collegiality and enriches the quality of instruction for students.
Objectives
By the end of the webcast, participants will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of what collegiality is and isn’t
- Discover what U.S. courts have ruled regarding collegiality (e.g., learn what one can and can’t do when dealing with tenured faculty)
- Learn strategies to use when dealing with uncivil faculty members
- Identify which proactive strategies could be useful in their departments
- Understand what university policies allow with respect to addressing specific individuals or behaviors
- Learn to develop hiring and tenure-granting processes that generate and retain candidates that support and develop a collegial atmosphere within the department and on campus
